What cure for wine is there but wine,

For a sufferer said to be sick with a hangover?

So drink virgin wine from a virgin's hand, and know

That the best love is love of maidens.

And drink it in the morning amid fields of wallflowers,

And roses, narcissi, and oxeye daisies,

And anemones, as though they were cheeks

That modesty has clothed in a robe of dignity.

The violet's blue has been joined with the green

Of myrtle and the red of pomegranate blossoms

In garden flowers; yet the beauty of your character

Draws one away from all other blossoms.

I care not, by God, so long as your life is prolonged,

If other lives are not prolonged.
