بأبيwith my father as ransom ساكنةٌa woman dwelling فيin جَدَثٍa grave
بأبي ساكنةٌ في جَدَثٍ
سكنتْshe settled منهfrom it إلىto غيرother than سَكَنْcomfort
سكنتْ منه إلى غير سَكَنْ
My father be her ransom, she who dwells in a grave,
Who has settled there, yet found no comfort.
نفسِO my soul فازداديso increase عليهاfor her حزناًgrief
نفسِ فازدادي عليها حزناً
كلماwhenever زادincreased البلىdecay زادincreased الحزنgrief
كلما زاد البلى زاد الحزن
O my soul, increase your grief for her;
The more decay grows, the more grief grows.
