أنت الذي لا حسامَ ما لم

يسلَّ من طرفك الحسام

يسلَّ من طرفك الحسام

You are the one—there is no sword unless

the sword is drawn from your gaze.

شمسُ نهارٍ ولا نهارٌ

شمسُ نهارٍ ولا نهارٌ

بدرُ ظلامٍ ولا ظلام

بدرُ ظلامٍ ولا ظلام

A sun of day, yet there is no day;

a full moon of darkness, yet there is no darkness.

فمنك وصلٌ ومنك هجرٌ

فمنك وصلٌ ومنك هجرٌ

فذا حياةٌ وذا حمام

فذا حياةٌ وذا حمام

From you comes union, and from you estrangement:

this is life, and that is death.

يا ليتنا ضَمَّنَا التقاءَ

أو ليتنا ضمِّنَا التزام

Oh, if only a meeting brought us together,
