أعطت يداه مُحِبَّهَ تفاحةً
تعطيgives المحبَّthe lover أمانةًassurance منagainst صدهhis rejection
تعطي المحبَّ أمانةً من صده
His hands gave his lover an apple
that grants the lover assurance against his rejection.
فعلمتُso I knew حينَwhen لثمتهاI kissed it منfrom كفِّهhis palm
فعلمتُ حينَ لثمتها من كفِّه
إنيthat I سألثُمI will kiss أُختهاits sister مِنْfrom خَدِّهhis cheek
إني سألثُم أُختها مِنْ خَدِّه
So I knew, when I kissed it from his palm,
that I would kiss its sister on his cheek.
