A tormented soul, and an eye that weeps,

And a heart nearly torn apart by love.

I lament my love for you to you, like one wasting away,

Bereft of sleep, whose eyelids never rest.

A lover whom passion has harmed; his heart

Is love-distraught and aching from the strain of loving you.

O you whose glance harms all the world,

Yet when sought to ward off harm, you ward it off.

What recourse has a youth whose body is frail

With one whose two eyes both harm and help?

And indeed, you have filled the heart with love for you

And passion—so there is no room in it for anyone else.
