O you who wear silk upon silk,

How lovely is fine cloth upon fine cloth!

You came before me, swaying in it; and so

You offered love's sword for brandishing,

From an ember pressed against an ember:

It has hurt us with roses and close contact.

I have feared nothing as I fear for

Your waist, lest your silken drawstring harm it.

O treasure of beauty, I cannot do

Without you for all the treasure on earth.

Our comfort lies in a sweet disposition, O

You who weary us with your tart disposition.
