Who will judge between Time and me?

It did not relent until it tamed me through separation.

So indeed, by my two dwellings that have grown desolate,

never after them will I turn aside to two other dwellings.

Why have I gone far from al-Hanī, when I was never

able to leave it for the blink of an eye?

O Monastery of Zakkā, you were the loveliest haunt

that Time bestowed upon two lovers.

And I would give my life for the meadow, where smiled upon us

its flanks, revealing gold and silver.

If humankind and jinn were laden with my burden of

longing, bearing it would weigh them both down.
