أيهاO you الحاسدُthe envious one المعدُّready لذمّيto disparage me
ذمَّdisparage ماwhatever شئتَyou wish رُبَّmany a ذمٍّdisparagement كحمدِlike praise
O envious one, ready to disparage me,
O envious slanderer lying in wait for me
Disparage me as you wish; many a disparagement is like praise.
Slander whatever you wish, plenty of slander is like praise
لاmay … not فقدتُI lose الحسودَthe envious one مدةَfor the duration of عمريmy life
إنindeed فقْدَthe loss of الحسودthe envious one أخيبُmost disappointing فقدloss
May I never lose the envious one throughout my life.
I have not lost the envious my whole life
Indeed, losing the envious one is the most disappointing of losses.
To lose the envious is the most wondrous loss
كيفhow لاnot أُوثِرُI favor الحسودَthe envious one بشكريwith my thanks
وهوand he عنوانُa sign of نعمةِthe blessing of اللهGod عنديwith me
How can I not favor the envious one with my thanks,
How can I not give thanks for the envious
When he is a sign of God's blessing upon me?
As he is to me a sign of God's blessing
