A full moon shone for us in the cloth market,
The full moon illuminated the market of cotton
In an embroidered robe, with a silk-and-wool turban.
Wearing a striped robe and a cap of velvet

The treasure of beauty has always been stored
The treasure of beauty has always been stored
In his cheeks—what a splendid treasure!
In his cheeks, so blessed are those treasures

A bough—if the wind were to shake his side
A branch, if the wind shook his bending
One day, he would almost melt at the shaking.
One day it would almost melt from the shaking

Were his radiance not a protective charm for him,
If his lights were not a protection for him
Two thousand charms would surely not suffice him.
He would undoubtedly need thousands of protections

A hand that seems fashioned from silver,
A palm that appears molded from smooth clay
And fingertips like raw silk in their softness.
And fingers so soft like pliant twigs

How often I have gestured toward him, winking at him from
How I have winked at him and made signs
Afar, and the faint wink has pained him.
From afar, so my hidden winking pains him

He would possess every virtue, were he not
He would possess all virtues if he were not
Scoffing at his lover, given to mockery.
Mocking his lover, so very coquettish
