O dwellings of loved ones that are no dwellings,
I wander around lovers who are not circles
I saw you as homes of the absent who are present.
I saw you as a circle of absence and presence

مقاربةً مباعدةَ الأمور
I saw you inhabited yet desolate,
I saw you as populated and lonely dwelling
close, yet far apart in circumstance,
Approaching and distancing things

A place for travelers to rest after travel
ever increasing, never vanishing through the ages.
Increasing and not perishing over the ages

I say as I have stood before you with flowing tears
set free from the hands of a captive heart.
Unfettered from the hands of an imprisoned heart

Graves into which were deposited forms we knew
their beauties as treasures kept in palaces.
Their beauties as trusts in palaces

At Qinnasrin's gate my tears go forth at evening,
My tears come and go at the door of the mausoleum
and at dawn, whether I depart at evening or at dawn.
And rise early in my spirits, at dawn

I yearn for biers and graves.
I yearn for dirges and tombs
