أتانا الحارثِ الرافقيّ

وقد نُقِّبَ الوجه منه بزاغ

وقد نُقِّبَ الوجه منه بزاغ

Al-Harith al-Rafiqi came to us,

Al-Harith, the gentle companion came to us,

and his face had been veiled with a crow.

His face deeply scarred and marred.

وخبَّرَ قومٌ بأنّ اللحى

وخبَّرَ قومٌ بأنّ اللحى

تطولُ على قدر مصِّ الدماغ

تطولُ على قدر مصِّ الدماغ

And some people reported that beards

A people told that the beard grows

grow long in proportion to their sucking out the brain.

As much as the brain is addled and muddled.

فإن كان حقاً كما خبَّروا

فإن كان حقاً كما خبَّروا

فقد فرغ الرأسُ كلَّ الفراغ

فقد فرغ الرأسُ كلَّ الفراغ

So if this is true, as they reported,

If what they say be true,

then his head has become utterly empty.

Then his head is totally empty and vacant.
