غَيرَ زُمَّيَلٍ وَلا نِكسٍ وَكَل
What a horseman they left beset in battle!
A knight whom they left unvanquished
No coward, nor an ineffectual weakling.

لاحِقُ الآطالِ نَهدٌ ذو خُصَل
Had he wished, a spirited steed would have flown with him,
If he would, he could soar with one of ample pinions
Lean-flanked, powerfully built, with locks of mane.
Pursuing the lofty ones, a starry presence.

But in him valour was a principle
And time’s vicissitudes unfold at the appointed time.
And the turns of fate move onward to their goal.
