أَمسىcame to evening بَنوsons of نَهشَلٍNahshal نَيّانُNayyān دونَهمُbetween us and them
المُطعِمونَthose who feed اِبنَthe son of جارِهِمtheir neighbor إِذاwhen جاعاhe went hungry
Evening found the sons of Nahshal with Nayyān between us and them—
The sons of Nahshal yesterday were wolves,
those who feed their neighbor's son when he goes hungry.
Feeding the son of their neighbor when hungry,
كَأَنَّas though زَيدَZayd مَناةَManāt بَعدَهُمafter them غَنَمٌsheep
صاحَcried out الرِعاءُthe shepherds بِهاto it (the flock) أَنto تَهبِطَdescend القاعاthe plain
As though Zayd Manāt, in their absence, were sheep,
As if after them Zayd Manat were sheep
with the shepherds crying out to them to descend to the plain.
And the shepherds shouted at them to descend to the valley,
أَبلِغconvey to بَنيthe sons of نَهشَلٍNahshal عَنّيfrom me مُغَلغَلَةًa far-traveling message
أَنَّthat الحِمىthe protected pasture بَعدَهُمafter them وَالثَغرَand the frontier قَدindeed ضاعاboth have been lost
Carry to the sons of Nahshal a far-traveling message from me:
Convey to the sons of Nahshal from me a message
that, in their absence, the protected pasture and the frontier have indeed been lost.
That protection after them and the gap are lost.
