ظَهَرَappeared الحَقthe truth مِنfrom مَعانmeanings وَلَفظand wording
ظَهَرَ الحَق مِن مَعان وَلَفظ
فَنَظَرناso we looked إِلَيهِat it مِنfrom كُلevery لَحظglance
فَنَظَرنا إِلَيهِ مِن كُل لَحظ
Truth appeared in meanings and words.
The truth emerged in meaning and word
So we looked upon it with every glance.
So we looked upon it in every moment
ظَلَcontinued يَعلوto rise بِسادةthrough nobles مِنfrom قُريشQuraysh
ظَلَ يَعلو بِسادة مِن قُريش
قَصمواthey crushed عَنaway from حَريمهits sanctuary كُلevery فَظharsh person
قَصموا عَن حَريمه كُل فَظ
It kept rising through nobles of Quraysh,
It continued to rise with the nobility of Quraysh
Who crushed every brute in defense of its sanctuary.
Who broke every roughness around its sanctity
ظاهروهthey supported it بِأَنفسwith lives وَبِمالand with wealth
ظاهروه بِأَنفس وَبِمال
عَنout of سَماحgenerosity ماnot شيبwas mingled يَوماًever بغيظwith anger
عَن سَماح ما شيب يَوماً بغيظ
They supported it with their lives and wealth,
They supported it with their souls and wealth
Out of generosity never once tainted by anger.
With generosity that anger never soured
ظمئواthey thirsted فيin هَواجرnoonday heats القيظhigh summer طَوعاًwillingly
ظمئوا في هَواجر القيظ طَوعاً
وَنَسواand they forgot فيin جنابهits presence كُلevery حَظpersonal gain
وَنَسوا في جنابه كُل حَظ
Willingly they thirsted in summer's noonday heat,
They willingly endured fiery exile
And in its presence forgot every personal gain.
And forgot in its presence any share
ظفرواthey triumphed إِذwhen تَمَسكواthey held fast بنبيto a prophet
ظفروا إِذ تَمَسكوا بنبي
وَبِماand to what جاءَhe brought مِنof حُدودprescribed bounds وَوعظand admonition
وَبِما جاءَ مِن حُدود وَوعظ
They triumphed when they held fast to a prophet,
They succeeded when they held to the Prophet
And to the bounds and admonitions he brought.
And what came of limits and preaching
ظلمةdarkness الشركpolytheism قَدindeed أَزالَhe dispelled بِنورwith a light
ظلمة الشرك قَد أَزالَ بِنور
قَدindeed تلوناهwe recited it بَينَbetween دَرسstudy وَحفظand memorization
قَد تلوناه بَينَ دَرس وَحفظ
He dispelled the darkness of polytheism with a light
The darkness of idolatry it erased with light
Which we have recited through study and memorization.
We have recited it between study and memorization
ظنهhis trust بِالإِلهin God ظَنtrust قَويstrong
ظنه بِالإِله ظَن قَوي
حَيثas عانىhe endured لِوجههfor His sake كُلevery لَظpersistent harasser
حَيث عانى لِوجهه كُل لَظ
His trust in God is a steadfast trust,
His belief in God was strong conviction
As he endured, for His sake, every persistent harasser.
Where he suffered for His sake every harshness
ظالمa wrongdoer كُلevery مَنone who عَصاهdisobeyed him كَفورungrateful
ظالم كُل مَن عَصاه كَفور
سَوفwill يَلقىencounter يَومday اللقاthe meeting كُلevery غنظanguish
سَوف يَلقى يَوم اللقا كُل غنظ
Everyone who disobeys him is a wrongdoer, an ingrate,
Oppressive is whoever disobeyed Him ungrateful
Who will face anguish of every kind on the Day of Meeting.
He will meet on the Day of Meeting every wrath
ضاعنjourneying للعلىtoward the heights يريكhe shows you كَلاماًspeech
ضاعن للعلى يريك كَلاماً
يَخجلblushes الدُرpearls عِندَat إِيرادuttering لَفظa word
يَخجل الدُر عِندَ إِيراد لَفظ
Journeying toward the heights, he shows you speech;
If you would see speech that humbles pearls
Pearls blush at the utterance of a word.
When any word is uttered
ظاهرmanifest الصدقtruthfulness وَالصيانةand integrity يحلوis sweet
ظاهر الصدق وَالصيانة يحلو
ذكرهmention of him عِندَat كُلevery مضغchewing وَلَمظand tasting
ذكره عِندَ كُل مضغ وَلَمظ
His truthfulness and integrity are plain; sweet is
Manifest are the truth and chastity pleasant
The mention of him with every chew and taste.
Is the mention at every bite and sip
