مدت تَصانيف أَهل العلم وَانتَشَرَت

عَلى وجوه المَعالي نشر ديباج

The writings of the learned were laid out and spread,

across the faces of lofty glory, like brocade unfurled.

فَإِن تَكُن لِجيوش الفقه أَلوية

فَإِن منهاج محيي الدين كَالتاج

For if the armies of jurisprudence have banners,

then Muhyi al-Din's Minhaj is indeed like a crown.

مَعالم قَد بَناها الشافعي لَنا

وَ قَد سَلَكنا إِلَيها خَير منهاج

Landmarks al-Shafi‘i has built for us,

and we have followed the best path to them.

وَزاد فيها شِهاب الدين تحفته

شَرحاً فَنور مِنهُ المشكل الداجي

And Shihab al-Din added his Tuhfa to them,

as a commentary, illuminating what was difficult and dark within it.

جَواهر فيهِ قَد كانت مبددة

فَصارَ فيها كَعقد تم وَهاج

Jewels in it had once been scattered;

thus, there it became like a necklace, complete and radiant.

ما حَل مَعنى عويصاً من عِبارته

إِلا وَأَصبَح كَالمسمار في الساج

He never unravelled an abstruse meaning in its wording

without its becoming like a nail in teakwood.

فَقُل لِسَيدنا الرَملي معذرة

لَقَد حَكيت وَلا وَالصادق الناجي

So say to our master al-Ramli, with apologies:

You have indeed matched him—no, by the truthful one who is saved!
