وَلعgrew enamored القَلبthe heart فيin الهَوىlove بِالغلوof excess
وَلع القَلب في الهَوى بِالغلو
وَتَحاشىand shunned عَنfrom الوَرىhumankind وَالسلوand solace
وَتَحاشى عَن الوَرى وَالسلو
The heart grew enamored of excess in love,
The heart is passionately in love, exceeding all bounds
And shunned humankind and solace.
And has turned away from people and their concerns
وَغَداand became فيin مَهامهtrackless wastes غادgoing forth at dawn
وَغَدا في مَهامه غاد
رائحreturning at dusk فيin الغَرامardent love بَعدafter الهدوrepose
رائح في الغَرام بَعد الهدو
And became a dawn traveler in trackless wastes,
Becoming immersed in its desires like a devoted lover
Returning at dusk in ardent love, after repose.
Wandering in love after feeling tranquility
وَكَفاهand was enough for it فَضيلةa virtue أنthat تَولىtook as patron
وَكَفاه فَضيلة أن تَولى
سَيداًa master حَلdwelt فيin مَحلa station العلوexaltation
سَيداً حَل في مَحل العلو
And it was virtue enough for it to take as patron
It is honor enough that he attained
A master who dwelt in the station of exaltation.
The rank of master, assuming the highest position
وَلَهُand he has فيin حَضائرprecincts القُدسholiness بَيتa house
وَلَهُ في حَضائر القُدس بَيت
غَيرهanyone other than him لَمdid not يجزreach إِلَيهِto it وَيؤوand take shelter
غَيره لَم يجز إِلَيهِ وَيؤو
And he has a house in the precincts of holiness,
He has in the precincts of holiness a house
Which no one else has reached and found shelter in.
None can attain but him, none can enter but he
وَهوَand he is العيدthe festival الرَفيعlofty المَعاليnoble distinctions
وَهوَ العيد الرَفيع المَعالي
سرهhis secret فيwithin سَتائرveils الغَيبthe unseen مَطويfolded away
سره في سَتائر الغَيب مَطوي
And he is the festival, lofty in distinction;
He is the lofty and sublime feast
His secret lies folded within the veils of the unseen.
Whose mystery is veiled in the curtains of the unseen
وَحيهhis revelation محدثnewly brought about النُزولthe descent قَديمeternal
وَحيه محدث النُزول قَديم
لَمnot يَشبbe tainted حكمهits ruling بِنسخwith abrogation وَمحوand erasure
لَم يَشب حكمه بِنسخ وَمحو
His revelation is newly sent down, yet eternal;
His revelation, though sent down anew
Its ruling was not tainted by abrogation or erasure.
Is eternal, its rule unchanged, unabrogated
وَتَراهand you find him إِذاwhen قَرَأتyou read هداهhis guidance
وَتَراه إِذا قَرَأت هداه
صادقtruthful القَولspeech بِالَّذيin what عَنهُfrom him ترويyou relate
صادق القَول بِالَّذي عَنهُ تروي
And when you read his guidance, you find him
You see it, when you recite his guidance
Truthful in speech, in what you relate from him.
To be true in word to what it relates of him
وَعَلَيهِand upon him مِنfrom الجَلالmajesty وَقارdignity
وَعَلَيهِ مِن الجَلال وَقار
هُوَit يزريcasts scorn بِحاسدon an envier وَعَدوand an enemy
هُوَ يزري بِحاسد وَعَدو
And upon him rests a dignity drawn from majesty;
And he has such majesty and dignity
It casts scorn on envier and enemy.
That he disdains the envier and enemy
وَلَقَدand indeed أسبغlavished الإِلهGod عَلَيهِupon him
وَلَقَد أسبغ الإِله عَلَيهِ
نعماًblessings تَنزَويconverge إِلَيهِtoward him وَتَهويand descend
نعماً تَنزَوي إِلَيهِ وَتَهوي
And indeed God has lavished upon him
God has indeed bestowed on him abundantly
Blessings that converge upon him and descend.
Gifts that come flocking down to him
وَعَلَيهِand upon him الصَلاةblessings فيat كُلevery وَقتtime
وَعَلَيهِ الصَلاة في كُل وَقت
وَسَلامand peace سَماrose high يغذيnourishes وَيرويand quenches thirst
وَسَلام سَما يغذي وَيروي
And blessings be upon him at all times,
Prayers be upon him at every time
And peace that has risen high, nourishing and quenching thirst.
And peace, wholesome, enriching and satisfying.
