فَلَوso if نَظَرواthey looked فيin مصرEgypt أَوصافfeatures خَدهhis cheek
لَماwould not نَظَرواthey looked يَوماًever إِلىat حمرةredness الوَردthe rose
So, had they in Egypt beheld the features of his cheek,
Had they seen the beauty of his cheek in Egypt
they would never have looked upon the redness of the rose.
They would not have looked another day at the red rose.
وَلَوand if شاهدواthey saw وَجهاًa face مُنيراًradiant وَقامةand a figure
لَماwould not بَذَلواthey offered فيin سَومbidding for يوسفJoseph مِنany نَقدmoney
And had they seen a radiant face and figure,
Had they witnessed his radiant face and stature
they would have offered no money in bidding for Joseph.
They would not have spent their money on Joseph.
لَواحيwomen who reproached زليخاZulaykha لَوif رأَينthey saw جبينهhis brow
لَغابواthey would have become absent عَنfrom الإِحساسconsciousness شَوقاًout of longing بِلاwithout عَمدintent
Had the women who reproached Zulaykha seen his brow,
Had Zulaikha’s cheeks seen his forehead
they would have lost consciousness from longing, unintentionally.
They would have lost all senses, filled with desire.
وَلَوand if انَّهُمthat they شَمواthey smelled عَبيراًa fragrance بِجسمهupon his body

And had they smelled a fragrance upon his body,
Had they smelled the fragrance of his body
they would have chosen to cut their hearts rather than their hands.
They would have preferred to cut out their hearts rather than their hands.
