وَمُقلة هَذا الدَهر زادَ انسِكابها
I see the universe’s tears: their surging flood has overflowed.
I see the tears of the universe overflowing
And the outpouring of this age’s eye has increased.
And the eyelids of this life shedding more of them

Ah, then weep, O eyelid of existence, for a pearl
Oh, weep, o existence's eyelid, for a pearl
That settled in the earth until her dust covered her.
That settled in the soil until it was covered with dust

إِلى جَوفِها إِذ حانَ جَزماً خَرابها
She shone upon the earth’s face, and turned back
It shone on the face of the plain and bent
Into its belly, when her ruin was surely at hand.
Into its interior when the decree of its ruin came

One of the exalted company and those forebears
Of the eminent people and the virtuous ancestors
Through whom the world grew sweet and its drink grew clear.
Through whom the life was pleasant and its drink exquisite

Her virtues are like the stars, and her excellence—
Their virtues like the stars and their superiority
To it the gray-haired of humankind and its youth bore witness.
Through it the land witnessed its old age and youth

فَأرخ لِرضوان جلي مآبها
And indeed she has returned, well-pleasing, to her God.
And she has returned, pleasing, to her God
So record the date: “Her return is to manifest divine favor.”
So allow for her the abode of His good pleasure
