وَالمَجد مِن فَوق الجِياد الضمر
Honor lies in the swift stroke of the green-hued sword,
Glory lies in the draw of the green scimitar,
And glory above the lean steeds.
And renown on the backs of the steeds.

Fragrance lies in the rust of armours,
And pride lies in the brown shafts of spear-wood.
Pride in the cane so swarthy and slender.

So when you strike, strike with a sword;
When you smite, smite with a striking sword,
And when you trace your lineage, trace it to Himyar's tribes.
When you claim descent, then claim descent from Himer.

For they are mountains firmly rooted amid battle,
They are mountains, firm standing in the fray,
And overflowing seas for the needy.
And seas, surging at the barrier.

Amid the fray they drank from the sweetest spring,
They drank the sweetest draught at the battle’s rage
And made their enemies drink crimson blood.
And gave the foe to drink blood red and eager.

And avoided the trees that bore no fruit.

And clothed themselves in rings of green-hued iron.
And robed themselves in coats of mail green as frogs.

They left behind each crooning maiden
The embrace of every armored warrior and lion.
To embrace the clanging, clattering armor.

Leopard-fierce against a leopard-fierce calamity.
By events that demanded blameless men.

Each warrior’s night has a moon
Night-dark, with every face within it moon-bright.
Where every face is lit with its light.

Each knight returns wrath with wrath.

My people are the noblest of high estate,
When their station is above shining al-Simak?
Their place is above the starry spheres.

And smash the nose of the defiant tyrant.
And crush the nose of the arrogant demon.

Since its noble stock was my own stock.
As its noble essence is my own essence.

Those who assailed Hawazin at dawn with poised steeds,
They who in the morn were Hāzim became at dusk
So that al-Mundhir's fortresses trembled before them.
A shattering quake to the forts of Manzur.

Among the lances of Shammar and their clans.

Swooping like a falcon on every cluster.

And took the infantry by surprise.

Until it seemed their rafts had never been mentioned.

Like Saba's scattered clans in this desolate wasteland.
Rent by the hands of discord in this abandoned place.

Though they betrayed me, I did not betray.

And turned away as a humble seeker of forgiveness would.
Repenting, submissive, asking forgiveness.

Rejoice, O son of two chiefs, in an engagement
Inscribed on time's tablet in ambergris.
Inscribed by fate upon tablets to remember.

How many a fire you quenched whose flames had raged,
And slit the bellies of oath-breakers with a dagger!
How many traitorous bellies your dagger cleft!

These gifts I brought to your noble court to observe.

Yet in its own genre it has not fallen short.
Though at your door they brought you no disgrace.
