مَدspread فَضلاًbounty عَلىover الوجودexistence عَميماall-encompassing
مَد فَضلاً عَلى الوجود عَميما
سَيدa master لَمdid not يَزَلcease to be صفوحاًvery forgiving كَريماgenerous
سَيد لَم يَزَل صفوحاً كَريما
He spread all-encompassing bounty over existence—
He extended favor upon existence entirely
a master ever forgiving and generous.
A lord who was always forgiving and generous
ماnot سَمعناwe have heard لَهُto him عَديلاًan equal شَبيهاsimilar
ما سَمعنا لَهُ عَديلاً شَبيها
لاneither خَليلاًan intimate friend وَلاnor صَفياًa chosen one كَليماone addressed by God
لا خَليلاً وَلا صَفياً كَليما
We have heard of no equal resembling him,
We never heard of anyone similar or akin to him
neither an intimate friend nor a chosen one addressed by God.
Neither an intimate friend nor a bosom buddy
مَلأfilled الكَونthe universe منwith نَداهhis bounty وَأَضحىand became
مَلأ الكَون من نَداه وَأَضحى
إِذwhen أَتاناhe came to us بِناtoward us رَؤوفاًcompassionate رَحيماmerciful
إِذ أَتانا بِنا رَؤوفاً رَحيما
He filled the universe with his bounty and became,
He filled the universe with his bounty and became
when he came to us, compassionate and merciful toward us.
As he brought us near, very kind and merciful
مَلجأa refuge اللائِذينthose seeking shelter موليbestower of العَطاياgifts
مَلجأ اللائِذين مولي العَطايا
كُلevery عافseeker of bounty مِنamong الوَرىhumankind وَعَديماand a destitute person
كُل عاف مِن الوَرى وَعَديما
A refuge for those seeking shelter, bestowing gifts on
Refuge of the seekers, master of blessings
every supplicant among humankind and every destitute person.
Every wellness in creation and the deprived
مَنجأa haven الخائِفينthe fearful فيon يَومa day حَشرgathering
مَنجأ الخائِفين في يَوم حَشر
حَيثwhere يَخشونthey fear زفرةa groaning breath وَجَحيماand hellfire
حَيث يَخشون زفرة وَجَحيما
A haven for the fearful on the Day of Gathering,
Shelter of the fearful on day of resurrection
where they dread a groaning breath and hellfire.
Where they fear a roar and hellfire
مطمحthe aspiration of العارفينthose with spiritual knowledge سرthe secret of المَعاليnoble virtues
مطمح العارفين سر المَعالي
كَمhow many شَفىhealed كَفهhis hand عَليلاًan ailing person سَقيماsick
كَم شَفى كَفه عَليلاً سَقيما
The aspiration of those with spiritual knowledge, the secret of noble virtues;
Aspiration of the gnostics, secret of sublimities
how many sick and ailing people his hand has healed!
How many a feeble and sick his palm healed
منهجthe path of الواصِلينthose who attain كَمhow much ذاقَtasted مِنهُfrom him
منهج الواصِلين كَم ذاقَ مِنهُ
وَاصلone who attains نعمةa blessing وَفَضلاًand bounty جَسيماimmense
وَاصل نعمة وَفَضلاً جَسيما
The path of those who attain—how much has been tasted from him
Path of the united, how much from Him
by one who attains: blessing and immense bounty!
A united tasted grace and ample favor
مَنهلa watering place الواردينthose coming to drink كَمhow often فاضَoverflowed جَهراًopenly
مَنهل الواردين كَم فاضَ جَهراً
كَفهhis hand مشرباًa drink روباًcurdled milk (literal reading) عَميماample for all
كَفه مشرباً روباً عَميما
The spring for those who come to drink—how often there poured forth in plain sight
Spring of the arriving, how much it overflowed openly
from his hand a drink of curdled milk, ample for all!
His palm a drinking place, vast and general
مذهبdispeller of الباسdistress وَالعَناand toil وَعَلَيهand upon him
مذهب الباس وَالعَنا وَعَلَيه
نزلdescended الوَحيrevelation وَالكِتابand the Book قَديماlong ago
نزل الوَحي وَالكِتاب قَديما
The dispeller of distress and toil; and upon him
Doctrine of intimacy and estrangement, upon it
revelation and the Book descended long ago.
Revelation and ancient scripture descended
محقeffaced الكُفرunbelief بالقناwith spears وَالمَواضيand keen-edged swords
محق الكُفر بالقنا وَالمَواضي
فَهداناso he guided us بِهاthrough them طَريقاًa path قَويماstraight
فَهدانا بِها طَريقاً قَويما
He effaced unbelief with spears and keen-edged swords,
Vanquishing disbelief with spear and battlefield
and so, through them, he guided us along a straight path.
So He guided us to a straight path
