Were palm-frond pens supplied from the sea.
Were spread with quills extending from the sea

يُؤججsets ablaze ماwhat بَينَbetween الجَوانحthe ribs وَالصدرand the breast
يُؤجج ما بَينَ الجَوانح وَالصدر

Endless greetings and hellish longing
Sets ablaze what lies between the ribs and the breast.
That ignites between ribs and chest

يزفis borne إِلىto بَحرa sea يَفوقsurpasses عَلىabove البَحرthe sea

Borne to a sea that surpasses the sea.
That pours into a sea surpassing seas

Traveling to Nu'man in an hour of ease.
Sailing to Nu'man in the hour of ease
سَلامgreetings بلاwithout عَدcount وَشَوقand longing إِذاwhen سرتwaft
سَلام بلا عَد وَشَوق إِذا سرت
نَسائمكمyour breezes يَزدادincreases بِالوَقدin flame وَالحَرand heat
نَسائمكم يَزداد بِالوَقد وَالحَر
Greetings beyond number, and longing that, when there waft
Endless greetings, when your breezes blow
Your breezes, grows in flame and heat.
Longing increases with the flame and heat
سَلامgreetings بلاwithout عَدcount وَلَوeven if كُلevery كاتبscribe
سَلام بلا عَد وَلَو كُل كاتب
يُحاولهattempts it ضَبطاًto tally precisely لَماwould not جاءَcome بِالعشرwith a tenth
يُحاوله ضَبطاً لَما جاءَ بِالعشر
Greetings beyond number, even if every scribe
Endless greetings, even if each writer
Tried to tally them, he would not reach a tenth.
Attempted to record but a tenth
سَلامgreetings يُحاكيmatches البَدرthe full moon ضوءاًin radiance وَبَهجةand splendor
سَلام يُحاكي البَدر ضوءاً وَبَهجة
وَيزريand puts to shame نِظاماًin arrangement بِالجَواهرthe jewels وَالدرand pearls
وَيزري نِظاماً بِالجَواهر وَالدر
Greetings that match the full moon in radiance and splendor,
Greetings rivaling the moon in radiance and joy
And in their arrangement put jewels and pearls to shame.
And stringing order with pearls and gems
