صفوةthe chosen one اللَهGod مِنfrom among جَميعall الخُصوصthe elect
صفوة اللَه مِن جَميع الخُصوص
سَيدa master حَلdwelt فيin مَحَلthe abode of الخلوصpurity
سَيد حَل في مَحَل الخلوص
God’s chosen one from among all the elect,
The chosen one of Allah among all mankind
A master who dwelt in the abode of purity.
The master took the place of sincerity
صادقtruthful القَولspeech لَمdid not تثنهsway him عُيوبfaults
صادق القَول لَم تثنه عُيوب
فَتَأملso reflect فيon نَعتهhis description المَقصوصrecounted
فَتَأمل في نَعته المَقصوص
Truthful in speech, whom no faults could sway;
Truthful in speech, he was not deterred by faults
So ponder his description as recounted.
So contemplate his abbreviated attributes
صَرحواthey declared أنthat أَولthe first الخَلقcreation طَهṬā Hā
صَرحوا أن أَول الخَلق طَه
هَكَذاthus جاءَit was stated فيin جَميعall النُصوصthe texts
هَكَذا جاءَ في جَميع النُصوص
They declared that Ṭā Hā was the first of creation;
They declared that the first of creation was Taha
Thus it is stated in all the texts.
Thus it came in all the texts
صَحproved authentic عَنfrom جابرJābir بِذاكَconcerning that حَديثاًa hadith
صَح عَن جابر بِذاكَ حَديثاً
ثابتestablished نَقلهits transmission بِشَرحin the commentary on الفُصوصal-Fuṣūṣ (The Bezels)
ثابت نَقله بِشَرح الفُصوص
A hadith to that effect is authentically reported from Jābir,
It was authentic from Jabir with that hadith
Its transmission established in the commentary on al-Fuṣūṣ.
Transmitted and explained clearly
صاغَهُfashioned him اللَهُGod مِنfrom وَقارdignity وَحلمand forbearance
صاغَهُ اللَهُ مِن وَقار وَحلم
وَحماهand protected him مِنfrom كُلevery خَطبordeal عَويصdifficult
وَحماه مِن كُل خَطب عَويص
God fashioned him from dignity and forbearance,
Allah molded him with dignity and forbearance
And protected him from every difficult ordeal.
And protected him from all difficult affairs
صحبهhis companions القائِمونthose who stand لِلّهfor God طَوعاًwillingly
صحبه القائِمون لِلّه طَوعاً
كَبِناءlike a building عَلىon التُقىpiety مَرصوصtightly joined
كَبِناء عَلى التُقى مَرصوص
His companions, who stand willingly in God’s service,
His companions were willingly obedient to Allah
Are like a tightly joined building founded on piety.
Like a solid building based on piety
صَدقوهthey believed him وَصابَرواand stood firm against فيfor رضاهhis approval
صَدقوه وَصابَروا في رضاه
كُلevery جلفboor وَفاسقand sinner مَنقوصdeficient
كُل جلف وَفاسق مَنقوص
They believed him and, seeking his approval, stood firm against
They believed him and persevered patiently in his satisfaction
Every boor and deficient sinner.
While every rude and corrupt one was deficient
صدعواthey cleft بِالقناwith spears قُلوبhearts أُناسpeople
صدعوا بِالقنا قُلوب أُناس
لَمdid not يَرواsee عَنfrom قِتالهمfighting them مِنany مَحيصescape
لَم يَروا عَن قِتالهم مِن مَحيص
They cleft with spears the hearts of men
They split open the hearts of people with swords
Who saw no escape from fighting them.
Who did not see any escape from fighting them
صَبَرواthey stood firm فيin الوَغىbattle فَأَضحَتso became عداهمtheir enemies
صَبَروا في الوَغى فَأَضحَت عداهم
بَينَbetween شلوa torn corpse وَهاربand a fugitive موقوصwith a broken neck
بَينَ شلو وَهارب موقوص
They stood firm in battle, and their foes were left
They endured the battle so their enemies
As torn remains or fugitives with broken necks.
Became between disabled and fleeing ones deficient
صلsend blessings ياO رَبناour Lord وَسَلمand send peace عَلَيهupon him
صل يا رَبنا وَسَلم عَلَيه
بِسَلامwith a greeting of peace منقحpurified مَخصوصspecial
بِسَلام منقح مَخصوص
Bless him, O our Lord, and send peace upon him,
Pray O Lord and bestow peace upon him
With a pure and special salutation of peace.
With a special and selective peace
