تَبث أَحاديث الغَرام وَتنشر
Gardens upon which the jewels of dew are scattered,
Gardens strewn with pearls of dew
telling and spreading tales of passion.
Whispering tales of love anew

Whenever the north wind bends their branches,
When the north wind stirs each bough
I imagine them as graceful maidens’ swaying forms.
Like swaying figures they bow

عُيوناً يرام الفَتح مِنها فَتكسر
And if the tender narcissus sleeps among them, I take it for
Should narcissus slumber there
eyes one hopes will open, yet they droop half-shut.
Eyes like buds they burst and tear

And the rose is but a crimson cheek,
Roses but a garden fair
with which a crimson-red cheek looks lovely.
Where cheeks like wine take air

Pomegranates nothing more
breasts over which jet-black hair is scattered.
Than breasts that raven tresses pour

I knew for certain that wine from the juice of their vines
I knew wine from his vine
is sweet saliva by which the heart sobers and grows drunk.
A draft to rouse and bind

Dewdrops necklaces bejeweled
yet this is a plant, and that a jewel.
On stems they’re born and yield

Each visitor but gifts
Husayn’s gifts, raining down whenever you wish.
Of beauty that never lifts

A scion of noble men: if the sea flows surging,
Noble scions of repute
then the sea of their generosity is grander and more abundant.
If seas run deep their hearts moreso

Noble chiefs, striking cleaving blows upon necks
Stallions pawing the ground
whenever the arrogant rebel recoils in disdain.
When monsters rear and resound

He grew up among them, nourished by the goodness of his lineage,
Nurtured on sweetest air
and became a branch of generosity, bearing fruit.
To branch and fruit they bear

Refined since infancy

Musk and amber their pedigree

Whenever we see him, we see his forefathers,
In them we see their sires
though they have gone before; one thing recalls another.
Though gone, like recalls like

If we lack his father’s presence
of his, a meeting with him and his presence suffice us.
Assembly with him is recompense

His father refused to let baseness touch his honor;
His father scorned disgrace
thus he is nothing but a jeweled sword of glory.
A sword of glory encased

Resolves known to test time
keen blades of fate, whose edge cannot be broken.

Hands that halt tribulations
where miserliness perishes and generosity is upheld.
Vanquishing greed, gracing nations

In the land of Khushkhashiyah
with which God executes and decrees whatever He wills.
By God’s will he holds sway

Dear Hussein a gift from me
escorted as a bride to your gates and perfumed.
That wafts like sweetest perfume

For lovers a Kauthar of wine
