May God reward on my behalf the one to whose name I am linked

with the finest reward He grants those of learning and piety.

And may his heart ever flourish, and success attend him,

his noble deeds recounted among the rightly guided.

He has indeed unraveled through annotation what was obscure,

utterly beyond the reach of minds.

And he brought to light what the scholar of Haytam had concealed,

with the most graceful wording, free from pretension.

    فَكم جائع غذى وَظام بِهِ أروى

    He watered it with rigorous scholarship whose draught was sweet;

thus he fed so many hungry people and quenched the thirst of so many with it!

He has indeed followed his father, the noble scholar,

so He who knows secrets and whispers strengthened him.

They are our two luminaries; we find our way by their guidance,

and whoever is guided by truth escapes affliction.

So may the All-Merciful bless them both as long as stars fall,

and as long as a lover's eye gives voice to lament.
