وَطارق قَد أَتى بِالحادث الجَلَل
Dwell beside Ali, and pay no heed to any calamity,
Dwell with the Most High, and heed not what befalls;
nor to a night visitor who has brought a grievous disaster.
Events now come to pass of mighty import.
فَقَدfor indeed لَبستyou have donned دُروعاًcoats of armor مِنfrom مَحبتهlove for him
فَقَد لَبست دُروعاً مِن مَحبته
إِذاwhen أدرعتyou don armor فَلاthen do not تَسأَلask عَنabout الأَسَلthe spears
إِذا أدرعت فَلا تَسأَل عَن الأَسَل
For you have donned armor made from love for him;
For you are clad in robes of His affection;
once armored, do not ask about the spears.
When so clad, ask no questions of the thorns.

شَمائِلاً مزجت بِالخَمر والعَسَل
Ask about him, speak of him, and look at him: you will find
Inquire of Him, pronounce His name, behold Him;
qualities blended with wine and honey.
You'll find tresses of musk and honey mingled.

For his praise, his most exalted name, and his image
His attributes, His most exalted name and image
are upon ears, mouths, and eyes.
Are on men's lips, their hearts, their eyes' retinas.
