أتونيthey came to me فلمbut did not أرضَI approve ماwhat بيّتواthey plotted by night
أتوني فلم أرضَ ما بيّتوا
وكانواand they had أتَونيthey came to me بشيءwith something نُكرoutrageous
وكانوا أتَوني بشيء نُكر
They came to me, but I rejected what they had plotted by night.
They had come to me with something outrageous:
لأنكحَso that I might give a bride to أيمهُمُtheir unmarried man مُنذراًMundhir
لأنكحَ أيمهُمُ مُنذراً
وهلand would يُنكِحُgive a bride to العبدَthe slave حُرّa freeborn man لُحرtruly freeborn
وهل يُنكِحُ العبدَ حُرّ لُحر
That I should give their bachelor, Mundhir, a bride—
And would a truly freeborn man give a slave a bride?
