وآلَ فُقَيم والكَراديسَ اصفقوا

وآلَ فُقَيم والكَراديسَ اصفقوا

News reached me that Mujāshiʿ

News came to me that Mujasha and

and the house of Fuqaym and the battalions had joined forces.

The tribes of Fuqaym and Al-Karatis applauded

وقالوا شَريسٌ قلتُ يكفي شريسكُم

وقالوا شَريسٌ قلتُ يكفي شريسكُم

سنان كنبراس النهامي مُفَتّق

سنان كنبراس النهامي مُفَتّق

And they said, “Sharīs!” I said, “Enough for your Sharīs is

And said evil! I said your own evil is enough

a broad-bladed spearhead, like the monk’s lamp,

Sannan is like the incisors of hungry wolves

نَمتهُ العَصَل ثم استمرَّ كأنه

نَمتهُ العَصَل ثم استمرَّ كأنه

شِهابٌ بكفّي قابسٍ يتحرّق

شِهابٌ بكفّي قابسٍ يتحرّق

raised aloft by stout shafts; then it sped on, as though

Whose aggression slept then persisted as if

a firebrand blazing in a fire-seeker’s two hands.”
