سَيجرحُ جُراحُ وأعقلُ ضَيمهُ

إذا كان مَخشياً من الضلع المُبدي

إذا كان مَخشياً من الضلع المُبدي

Jarrāḥ will wound, and I shall pay compensation for his wrongdoing,

Wounds will grieve, though I endure their pain

if he is feared for the hostility he displays.

If they but spare my ribs from further stain

فآباءُ جَرّاحٍ ذؤابةُ دَارِمٍ

فآباءُ جَرّاحٍ ذؤابةُ دَارِمٍ

وأخوالُ جَراحٍ سراةُ بني نَهدِ

وأخوالُ جَراحٍ سراةُ بني نَهدِ

For Jarrāḥ’s forefathers are the crest of Dārim,

For Surgeon-sires are fierce as lions bold,

and Jarrāḥ’s maternal uncles are the nobles of Banū Nahd.

And Surgeon-kinsmen destriers uncontrolled
