أَحَقاًis it really true بنيO sons of أبناءthe sons of سَلمَىSalma بنson of جَندلٍJandal
أَحَقاً بني أبناء سَلمَى بن جَندلٍ
وعيدُكُمُyour threat إيايَme وَسطَin the midst of المجالسِthe assemblies
وعيدُكُمُ إيايَ وَسطَ المجالسِ
Is it true, O sons of the sons of Salma ibn Jandal,
Are the sons of Salma son of Jandal truly
that you threaten me amid the assemblies?
Threatening me among all the assemblies?
فهلاso why did you not جَعلتمyou directed نحوهُthe like of it منof وَعيدكمyour threat
فهلا جَعلتم نحوهُ من وَعيدكم
علىagainst رهطthe clan of قعقاعٍQa'qa' ورهطand the clan of ابنson of حابسِHabis
على رهط قعقاعٍ ورهط ابن حابسِ
Why, then, did you not aim such threats of yours
Why do you not make such threats against
at the clan of Qa'qa' and the clan of Ibn Habis?
The clan of Qa’qa and the clan of Ibn Habis?
هُمُthey منعواthey withheld منكمfrom you تراثَthe inheritance of أبيكمyour father
هُمُ منعوا منكم تراثَ أبيكم
فصارso it became التراثُthe inheritance للكرامthe noble men's الأكايسِthe discerning
فصار التراثُ للكرام الأكايسِ
They withheld from you your father's inheritance,
They have denied you the inheritance of your father,
so the inheritance passed to the noble, discerning men.
So the inheritance has gone to the generous nobles.
هُمُthey أوردوكمthey brought you to ضَفّةِthe shore of البحرِthe sea طامياًsurging
هُمُ أوردوكم ضَفّةِ البحرِ طامياً
وهُمand they تركوكمthey left you بينbetween خازٍone disgraced وناكسِand one with head bowed
وهُم تركوكم بين خازٍ وناكسِ
They brought you to the shore of the surging sea,
They have led you to the shore of the sea, athirst,
and they left you, some disgraced, others with heads bowed.
And they have left you between one who is unlucky and one who is unfortunate.
