أَتَيناكَwe came to you لاnot مِنfrom حاجَةٍa need أَجحَفَتcaused hardship بِناto us
وَلاand not أَنَّناthat we عَلَيناupon us المَطالِبُthe demands
We came to you not out of a need that had brought us hardship,
Nor because demands weighed upon us;
وَلَكِنand yet دَعَتنيcalled me هِمَّتيmy ambition حينَwhen أَبلَغَتconveyed
إِلَيكَto you وَخالٌand a rain cloud مِنfrom نَوالِكَyour bounty هاضِبُpouring rain
But my ambition called me, when it had brought me
To you—as did a rain cloud pouring forth your bounty.
