لَقَدindeed غَدَوتُI set out early بِصُهبىwith Suhba وَهيَwhile she was مُلهِبَةٌracing swiftly
إِلهابُهاher swift racing كَضِرامِlike the blazing of النارِthe fire فيin الشيحِthe wormwood
Indeed, I set out early with Suhba while she raced,
her racing like fire blazing through wormwood.
جاءَتshe came لِتَسنَحُنيto cross my path يَسراًto the left فَقُلتُso I said لَهاto her
عَلىto يَمينِكِyour right إِنّيindeed I am غَيرُnot مَسنوحِone to be crossed
She came to cross my path to the left, so I told her,
'To your right! I am not one to be crossed.'
ثُمَّthen اِستَمَّرَتshe continued onward تُريدُshe seeks الريحthe wind مُصعِدَةًtravelling upcountry
نَحوَtoward الجَنوبِthe south فَعَزُّهاso her supremacy عَلىover الريحِthe wind
Then she pressed on, seeking the wind, heading upcountry
toward the south—and she prevailed over the wind.
ياO وَيلَwoe to صُهبىSuhba قُبَيلَjust ahead of الريحِthe wind مُهذِبَةًspeeding
بَينَbetween النِجادِthe uplands وَبَينَand between الجَزعِthe valley bend ذيhaving الصوحِthe rocky cliff
O, woe to Suhba, speeding just ahead of the wind,
between the uplands and the cliff-sided valley bend.
