لاnot يَعلَمُknow اللامِعاتُthe radiant ones اللامِحاتُthe quick-glancing ones ضُحىًin the forenoon
ماwhat تَحتَbeneath كَشحيmy flank وَلاnor يَعلَمنَthey know أَسراريmy secrets
The radiant, quick-glancing ones in the forenoon do not know
What lies beneath my flank, nor do they know my secrets.
وَلاnor أَخونُI betray اِبنَson of عَمّيmy paternal uncle فيconcerning حَليلَتِهِhis wife
وَلاnor البَعيدُthe distant one نَوىًin abode عَنّىfrom me وَلاnor جاريmy neighbor
Nor do I betray my cousin in the matter of his wife,
Nor the man far distant from me, nor my neighbor,
حَتّىuntil يُقالَit is said إِذاwhen وُرّيتُI am buried فيin جَدثيmy grave
لَقَدindeed مَضىhas passed away نَمِرٌNamir عارٍfree مِنَof العارِdisgrace
Until it is said, when I am buried in my grave:
“Namir has indeed passed away, free of disgrace.”
