لا يعتري شربنا اللجاء وقد
تُوهبare given away فيناًamong us القيانsinging girls والحللand robes
تُوهب فيناً القيان والحلل
No contention troubles our drinking band, even as
Our drinking is not diminished by need
singing girls and robes are given away among us.
And abundant provisions are granted to us
وفتيةٍand young men كالسُّيوفِlike swords أحضَرُهُمI join their company
وفتيةٍ كالسُّيوفِ أحضَرُهُم
لاno عاجزweakling فيهمamong them ولاand no بُخلُstinginess
لا عاجز فيهم ولا بُخلُ
And youths like swords—I join their company—
And young men like swords I prepare them
No weakling among them, nor any stinginess.
No weakness in them and no miserliness
بيضfair-faced مساميحopen-handed فيin الشتاءwinter وإنand even if
بيض مساميح في الشتاء وإن
أخلفfailed نجمa star عنin respect of وبلهits downpour وبلواthey showered bounty
أخلف نجم عن وبله وبلوا
Fair-faced, open-handed in winter, and even if
White forearms in winter and if
a star fails to bring its downpour, they shower bounty.
A star retreats from its cloud, they replace it
لاnot يتأرّونhang back فيin المضيقa tight strait وإنand if
لا يتأرّون في المضيق وإن
نادىcalled out منادٍa caller أنsaying انزلواdismount, all of you نزلواthey dismounted
نادى منادٍ أن انزلوا نزلوا
They do not hang back in straits, and if
They do not hesitate in straits and if
a caller cries, “Dismount!” they dismount.
A caller calls "Dismount!" they dismount
