وَلَستُand I am not بِقانِعٍcontent مِنof كُلِّall فَضلٍdistinction
وَلَستُ بِقانِعٍ مِن كُلِّ فَضلٍ
بأنwith the fact that أُعزىI am traced إِلىto جَدِّa forefather هُمامِvaliant
بأن أُعزى إِلى جَدِّ هُمامِ
And of all distinctions, I am not content
I'm not content with any gift of chance
merely to be traced to a valiant forefather.
That I should boast of an ancestry grand
