And sometimes I seek to forget sorrow when it comes upon me,

On a swift, bite-scarred camel bearing the Ṣayʿariyya brand,

    Reddish-brown, firm of flesh—or a Himyarite she-camel,

Swift-striding, scattering pebbles with a hardened foot,

As though upon its haunches were a fruitful palm’s date-cluster,

Hanging down from the spathe, unsheathed.
