كتابُكَyour letter كالروضِlike the garden الذيwhich فاحَwafted نشرُهits fragrance
وفاضتْand overflowed بهin it الغدرانُthe pools وابتسمَand smiled الزهرُthe flowers
Your letter is like a garden whose fragrance has spread,
Your book is like a garden in full bloom
And within it the pools overflow and the flowers smile.
Streams overflow with joy and flowers smile
ففيfor in كلَّevery سمعِear منهfrom it شنْفٌan earring مرصَّعُjewel-studded
وفيand in كلَّevery قطرٍregion مِنfrom تأرُّجِهits wafting fragrance عِطُرُperfume
For in every ear is a jewel-studded earring from it,
In every ear that hears it shines a pearl
And in every region, perfume from its wafting fragrance.
In every drop of its perfume there is scent
فللّهِso, to God (expressing admiration) ماwhat تحويcontain السطورُthe lines التيthat بهin it
كأنَّas though رياضّthe gardens الحَزْنِthe rugged uplands ماwhat قدindeed حوىcontained السَّطْرُthe line
How wondrous, by God, is what the lines within it contain!
By God, what wonders these lines contain
As though what the line holds were the gardens of the rugged uplands.
As if the gardens of grief the verse transform
