إذاif لمnot تقرُبِdraw near الأجسامُthe bodies منّاto us
إذا لم تقرُبِ الأجسامُ منّا
علىthroughout طولِthe duration of التباعدِseparation والتماديand continuance
على طولِ التباعدِ والتمادي
If bodies do not draw near to us,
If bodies do not draw near us
throughout long separation and its continuance,
Despite the distance and divergence
ففيماthen in what تنقلُconvey الأقلامُthe pens عنّاfrom us
ففيما تنقلُ الأقلامُ عنّا
وانand even if لمnot تُغنِsuffice ترويحُsolace الفؤادِthe heart
وان لم تُغنِ ترويحُ الفؤادِ
then in what the pens convey from us,
Then whatever pens relay of us
even if they do not suffice, lies solace for the heart.
If it brings no solace to the heart
