الراحَthe wine كَالنارِlike fire فيin زُجاجِglass
الراحَ كَالنارِ في زُجاجِ
تُضيءَit shines فيin باطِنِthe inner being of اللَبيبِthe discerning man
تُضيءَ في باطِنِ اللَبيبِ
Wine is like fire in glass;
The wind is like fire in glass -
It shines within the discerning man.
It lights up the heart of the wise.
وَهيَand it إِذاwhen الجاهِلُthe fool اِحتَساهاhe drank it
وَهيَ إِذا الجاهِلُ اِحتَساها
تَبدوit appears دُخاناًsmoke بِلاwithout لَهيبِa flame
تَبدو دُخاناً بِلا لَهيبِ
And when the fool drinks it,
Yet when grasped by the ignorant,
It appears as smoke without a flame.
It seems but smoke without flame.
