عِندَ وَلِيَّ الخَيرِ شَرُّ العِباد

عِندَ وَلِيَّ الخَيرِ شَرُّ العِباد

مَن أَنكَرَ الوَعدَ بِيَومِ المَعاد

مَن أَنكَرَ الوَعدَ بِيَومِ المَعاد

To the guardian of goodness, the worst of servants is

The evil of God's servants is with the benevolent

Whoever denied the promise of the Day of Return,

He who denied the promise of Judgment Day

وَمَن بِدارِ اللَهوِ أَلهاهُ ما

وَمَن بِدارِ اللَهوِ أَلهاهُ ما

أَغواهُ عَن جَدٍّ لِجيدِ الرَشاد

أَغواهُ عَن جَدٍّ لِجيدِ الرَشاد

And whoever, in the abode of diversion, was distracted by what

And whom the abode of frivolity has distracted

Led him astray from earnest striving for the neck of right guidance.

From the guidance of success it has misled

فَرَّ عَنِ العَونِ بِفِرعَونِهِ

فَرَّ عَنِ العَونِ بِفِرعَونِهِ

فَعادَ في النارِ قَريناً لِعاد

فَعادَ في النارِ قَريناً لِعاد

He fled from aid with his Pharaoh,

He escaped from help like Pharaoh

And so became a companion of ʿĀd in the Fire.

So he became a companion of the hellfire like Aad

غادَرَهُ الغَدرُ بِأَهلِ الوَفا

غادَرَهُ الغَدرُ بِأَهلِ الوَفا

بَعدَ الصَفا مِن كَدَرٍ في مِهاد

بَعدَ الصَفا مِن كَدَرٍ في مِهاد

Treachery toward the faithful left him,

Treachery deserted him from the people of loyalty

After clarity, in a bed of murk.

After clarity from the turbidity in position

لَم يُغنِ عَنهُ بِالغِنى مالُهُ

لَم يُغنِ عَنهُ بِالغِنى مالُهُ

وَلا إِلى الجاهِ التَجاهُ أَفاد

وَلا إِلى الجاهِ التَجاهُ أَفاد

His wealth did not avail him through riches,

His money did not avail him with wealth

Nor did recourse to prestige avail him.

Nor status grant him any benefit
