ياO راغِباًturning away بِغِناهُthrough his wealth عَنfrom فُقَرائِناour poor
بِالزُهدِthrough renunciation فيكَof you الفَقرُpoverty قَدindeed أَغناناhas enriched us
O one who, in his wealth, turns away from our poor,
O you who wish to enrich yourself at the expense of our poverty
By renouncing you, poverty has indeed enriched us.
With asceticism in you, poverty has enriched us
لَوif ذُقتَyou tasted طَعمَthe flavor طَعامِناour food وَشَرابِناand our drink
ماnot عِشتَyou lived عُمرَكَyour lifetime جائِعاًhungry ظَمآناthirsty
Had you tasted the flavor of our food and our drink,
Had you tasted the flavor of our food and drink
you would not have spent your life hungry and thirsty.
You would not have lived your life hungry and thirsty
وَلَوِand if اِستَقَمتَyou kept straight عَلىon سِواءِthe straight course سَبيلِناour path
لَمnot تَمشِyou walk فيin تيهِthe trackless expanse الفَلاthe wilderness حَيراناbewildered
And had you kept to the straight course of our path,
And had you walked the straight path of our way
you would not have walked bewildered in the trackless wilderness.
You would not wander confused in the wilderness
وَلَدُرتَand you would have roamed بِالدارِthrough the abode الَّتيwhich دِرناwe roamed بِهاthrough it
وَلِثَمتَand you would have kissed فيهاin it الحورَthe houris وَالوَلدِناand the youths
And you would have roamed the abode where we roamed,
And you would know the house we resided in
and there you would have kissed the houris and the youths.
And enjoyed in it the maidens and our children
