أُمّيmy mother الشَريعَةُthe sacred law وَالمُقيمُand the upholder لَهاof it أَبيmy father
وَبَنوand the sons بَنيهاof her sons كُلُّهُمall of them إِخوانيmy brothers
My mother is the sacred law, and its upholder is my father.
My mother is my creed, and its upholder is my father,
And the sons of her sons are all my brothers.
And all its people are my brethren and comrades.
أَأَعَزُّshall I honor والِدَتيmy mother وَأَنكُرُand deny والِديmy father
وَإِلىand to عَدايَmy enemies أَفُرُّI flee مِنfrom أَعوانيmy helpers
Shall I honor my mother and deny my father,
Shall I glorify my mother while denying my father?
and flee to my enemies from my helpers,
Shall I flee from my own unto my enemies?
وَأَفُرُّand I flee مِنfrom أُنسيmy familiar company إِلىto وَحشِthe wild beasts of الفَلاthe wilderness
إِنif كُنتُI am ذاكَthat فَلَستُthen I am not بِالإِنسانِa human being
and flee from my familiar company to the wild beasts of the wilderness?
Shall I desert my own kindred for the wild beasts?
If I am like that, then I am no human being.
If I did so, I would not be human.
