في شَرِقِ اِسمِ الحُبِّ أَهلُ الهَوى

في شَرِقِ اِسمِ الحُبِّ أَهلُ الهَوى

شِركي وَبي مَعناهُ مَخصوصُ

In the east of love's name [uncertain reading], the people of passion

In the east of the name of love, the people of passion

are my partners; its meaning belongs to me alone.

My partner and I, its meaning is specific

وَما عَلى غَيري بِهِ أَجمَعَ ال

And whatever, concerning it, is unanimously affirmed of others by the

Except the ignorant among them, it is textually stipulated in me

وَكُلُّ مَن زادَ وَقَد حادَ عَن

حَدّي بِدَعوى مِنهُ مَنقوصُ

And anyone who goes further, having strayed from

And whoever adds more, having deviated

my limit through a claim to it, is deficient.

From my limits with a deficient claim from it

لِأَنَّ بُنيانَ يَقيني عَلى أَسٍ

لِأَنَّ بُنيانَ يَقيني عَلى أَسٍ

مِنَ التَحقيقِ مَرصوصُ

مِنَ التَحقيقِ مَرصوصُ

For the edifice of my certainty, upon a foundation

Because the structure of my certainty is on a foundation

of verification, is firmly built.

Of investigation, firmly constructed

فَلَيسَ بِالبالِغِ شَأوي بِهِ

فَلَيسَ بِالبالِغِ شَأوي بِهِ

طائِرُ لِبٍّ وَهوَ مَقصوصُ

طائِرُ لِبٍّ وَهوَ مَقصوصُ

Thus my reach in it cannot be attained

So not every bird reaches my stature with it

by a bird of intellect whose wings are clipped.
