لَوif كانَwere ماwhat زَخَرفواthey embellished وَقالواand they said
لَو كانَ ما زَخَرفوا وَقالوا
لِلدينِof religion تَبدوbecome clear بِهِthrough it الأُصولُthe foundations
لِلدينِ تَبدو بِهِ الأُصولُ
If what they embellished and said
If what they embellished and said
were that through which religion’s foundations became clear,
About religion made principles appear
وَكانَand were يَهديit guides إِلىto صِراطٍa path
وَكانَ يَهدي إِلى صِراطٍ
لِمnot تَختَلِbecome confounded مِنهُمamong them العُقولُthe minds
لِم تَختَلِ مِنهُم العُقولُ
and guided to a path,
And guided to a path
their minds would not have been confounded;
Why did minds differ in it?
وَكانَand would have been أَوَّلُthe first داعٍone calling إِلَيهِto it
وَكانَ أَوَّلُ داعٍ إِلَيهِ
بِهِthrough it إِلىto دينِهِhis religion الرَسولُthe Messenger
بِهِ إِلى دينِهِ الرَسولُ
and the first to call to it
And if the first person who called to it
and through it to his religion would have been the Messenger.
