وَوُدٍّ لَكُم مِنّي حَوَتهُ الأَضالِعُ
I swear by the pure devotion you have bestowed,
By the right you gave me when you bound me with the ties of faithfulness,
And by my love for you, enclosed within my ribs:
And by the love my ribs enclose for you,
لَقَدindeed نَزَلَتdescended بيupon me وَحشَةٌloneliness بَعدَafter أُنسِكُمyour companionship

عَلَيَّ بِها ضاقَ الفَضى وَهوَ واسِعُ
Loneliness has indeed descended upon me after your companionship;
Loneliness has descended upon me since your company departed.
Because of it, open space has closed in upon me, though it is vast.
Because of it, the vast desert seems confining.
وَأَبرَحُand the most tormenting ماwhat أَلقاهُI encounter it أَنَّthat مَزارِكُمyour place of visitation
وَأَبرَحُ ما أَلقاهُ أَنَّ مَزارِكُم

قَريبٌ وَلي الزَيارَةُ مانِعُ
And what torments me most is that your abode
Yet I know that your dwelling place is near at hand
Is near, yet an obstacle keeps me from visiting.
And that only my circumstances prevent me from visiting.
