ما شَهِدتُ الطَرفَ الَّذي

ما شَهِدتُ الطَرفَ الَّذي

رَأى فُؤادي مِنكَ بِالسَمعِ

I did not behold with the eye what

I have not witnessed the eyes that saw

my heart saw of you through hearing.

My heart of you just from hearing of you

فَما طَغى إِذ ما عَدا حَدَّهُ

فَما طَغى إِذ ما عَدا حَدَّهُ

وَلا بَغى بِالفَرقِ وَالجَمعِ

وَلا بَغى بِالفَرقِ وَالجَمعِ

So it did not transgress, since it did not exceed its limit,

So it did not transgress when it went beyond

nor did it overstep in separation and union.

Nor did it seek separation or union
