How many lions of the lair have been felled
How many lions of the lair have I slain
by the wide-eyed oryx, with the arrows of their eyes!

And slumbering eyelids from passion
they awakened with the drowsiness of eyelids.
I awakened with the blade of eyelids

so it welled forth in sorrow from the tear ducts.
So it rose in sorrow from worries

For sword-blades are no deadlier than the glances
So I don't kill gazelles out of lust
of the gentle, wide-eyed gazelles.
For the lovely, friendly-eyed gazelles
