يحَدِّثُspeaks عَنabout سِواكَsomeone other than you سِوايَsomeone other than me زَوراًfalsely
يحَدِّثُ عَن سِواكَ سِوايَ زَوراً
وَاِكتُمand I conceal مِنكَfrom you ماwhat حُدِّثَتُI was told صِدقاtruthfully
وَاِكتُم مِنكَ ما حُدِّثَتُ صِدقا
It is someone other than I who speaks—falsely—of someone other than you;
Someone other than me speaks falsely of someone other than you.
while I conceal from you what I was told in truth.
And I conceal from you what I was truthfully told,
لِأَنّيbecause I لَمdid not أَجِدfind مِثليlike me كَتوماًdiscreet
لِأَنّي لَم أَجِد مِثلي كَتوماً
لِسِرِّكَwith your secret إِنif رَأىhe deems الكِتمانَconcealment حَقّاright
لِسِرِّكَ إِن رَأى الكِتمانَ حَقّا
For I have found no one as close-mouthed as I
For I have found no one as discreet as I
with your secret, when he deems concealment a duty.
With your secret, if he deems concealment right.
