لامَrebuked العَذولُthe reproacher عَلَيهِon his account
فَقُلتُso I said حَسبُكَenough for you حَسبيwhat suffices me
The faultfinding censor reproached me on his account.
The reproacher rebuked me on his account.
I said, “Let it suffice you that he suffices me.”
So I said: Let what suffices me suffice you.
فَلَيسَfor ... is not عَينُكَyour eye عَينيmy eye
وَلَيسَand ... is not قَلبُكَyour heart قَلبيmy heart
For your eye is not my eye,
For your eye is not my eye,
nor is your heart my heart.
And your heart is not my heart.
وَلَوand if رَأَيتَyou saw حَبيبيmy beloved
لَقُلتَyou would surely say ذاthis رَبُّLord رَبّيmy Lord
Had you but seen my beloved,
And if you saw my beloved,
you would have said, “This is the Lord of my Lord.”
You would surely say: This is the Lord of my Lord.
