أَأَرومُdo I seek طاعَةَobedience to مَنone whom مَلَكتُI have owned وَحالُهُand his condition
أَأَرومُ طاعَةَ مَن مَلَكتُ وَحالُهُ
حاليmy condition وَأُعصيand I disobey مالِكَthe master of المُلّاكِthe masters
حالي وَأُعصي مالِكَ المُلّاكِ
Do I seek to obey one whom I own, whose condition
Shall I obey one whose state is like mine
Is the same as mine, while I disobey the Master of masters?
And disobey the Owner of all sovereignty?
وَأَعُدُّand I count نَفسيmyself بِالحَجيجِamong the pilgrims لِبَيتِهِto his house
وَأَعُدُّ نَفسي بِالحَجيجِ لِبَيتِهِ
دَعوىa claim وَأَرفُضُand I reject سُنَّةَthe customary way of السَلّاكِthe spiritual wayfarers
دَعوى وَأَرفُضُ سُنَّةَ السَلّاكِ
And count myself among the pilgrims to his house—
And deem myself justified before His house
A mere claim—while rejecting the way of the wayfarers?
While rejecting the practice of the righteous?
وَأَقولُand I say إِنّيthat I فيin هَواهُlove for him مُوَحِّدٌone affirming divine oneness
وَأَقولُ إِنّي في هَواهُ مُوَحِّدٌ
وَلَدَيَّand I have أَشراكٌsnares مِنَof الإِشراكِassociating partners with God
وَلَدَيَّ أَشراكٌ مِنَ الإِشراكِ
And say that in my love for him I affirm his oneness,
And say, “I am devoted to His love alone”
While I have snares of polytheism?
While having many idols of idolatry?
