صَدَدتَyou turned away فَصَدَّso withdrew عَنfrom عَينيmy eye رِقاديmy sleep
وَقَرَّحَand made sore جَفنَهاits eyelid وَصلُthe company of السُهادِsleeplessness
You turned away, so sleep fled from my eye,
And the company of sleeplessness made its eyelid sore.
وَأَلبَسيand clothed me (likely وَأَلبَسَني) جَفاكَyour estrangement ثِيابَgarments سَقمٍsickness

And your estrangement clothed me in garments of sickness,
Through which I stripped wantonness from my heart.
وَقَدand indeed رَوّىdrenched الثَرىthe earth دَمعيmy tears وَقَلبيyet my heart

My tears have indeed drenched the earth, yet my heart
Thirsts for the scant moisture of your lips.
وَهاand here أَناI am بِالجَفاby estrangement مُذمَلَتsince you turned away (likely مُذْ مِلْتَ) مُضنىًwasted

يُطَوِّحُtosses about بِيَme الهَوىpassion فيthrough كُلِّevery واديvalley
And here I am, wasted by estrangement since you turned away,
While passion tosses me through every valley.
أُكاتِمُI conceal فيكَconcerning you عُذّاليmy reproachers غَارميmy passion (likely غَرامي)
وَهَلand can يَخفىbe hidden ضَنىًwasting sickness فيin الجِسمِthe body باديplainly visible
I hide my passion for you from my reproachers,
Yet can the body's visible wasting be concealed?
وَأَستُرُand I conceal لَوعَتيmy burning anguish بِكَbecause of you عَنfrom صِحابيmy companions
وَأَوصابيand my ailments عَلَيَّagainst me بِهاof it تُناديcry out
And I hide my burning anguish for you from my companions,
Yet my ailments cry it out against me.
أَياO مَنone whose قَدindeed تَعَبَّدَنيhas enslaved me هَواهُlove for him
وَأَوثَقَand bound fast فيin مَحَبَّتِهِlove for him قِياديmy reins
O you whose love has enslaved me
And bound my reins fast in love for you:
بِصِدقِwith the sincerity of الوُدِّaffection كُنتَyou had شَرَيتَbought قَلبيmy heart
فَحينَbut when مَلَكتَyou took possession مِلتَyou turned away عَنِfrom الوِدادِaffection
With true affection you had bought my heart,
But once you possessed it, you turned away from love.
